John Moore is a retired Accountant having spent over 40 years in the profession before retiring to the Sunriver area. He has spent his retirement volunteering for different non-profits including as a board member of the St. Vincent De Paul of La Pine and Holy Trinity Community Outreach-Care and Share with their food distribution and firewood program. John also serves as a Road Commissioner on the Spring River Road District in Sunriver. He was recently elected to the office of Vice President of the Hunger Prevention Coalition Board. John and his wife live in the Sunriver Community.
Since retiring in 2000, Marie Gibson enjoys life in beautiful Central Oregon. Quite a change from being a neuroscientist at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Soon after moving here, Marie was startled to learn that Oregon had one of the worst rankings in food security in the country. This prompted her to become active with the newly formed Hunger Prevention Coalition. Marie is also on the Board of the League of Women Voters, which offers another opportunity for advocacy. Although they are scattered across the country, Marie tries to see her 5 children and 9 grandchildren as often as possible.
After moving to the Sunriver area 20 years ago, Madeline wanted to get involved with volunteering on a local level. Neighbor Impact, formerly COCCAN, came to Holy Trinity Church and said that there were people in need of food in the greater Sunriver-La Pine area. Holy Trinity Community Outreach Care and Share was formed and she has been a member from the beginning. As a registered nurse Madeline has always enjoyed caring for others and continues to help provide food boxes to the less fortunate. “Becoming a member of Hunger Prevention Coalition has given me an opportunity to discover the many other organizations that are providing nutritious food in other areas.”
Blake Vaughn, a local mortgage officer, has been an avid volunteer in Bend since graduating from University of Oregon. Growing up with a father in agriculture, he appreciates the vital role food plays in our communities . He was driven to join HPC upon learning many Oregonians in need are deprived of nutritional options. In his free time he enjoys fishing, snowboarding, and spending time with family.
After moving to Bend in 1995, Anne launched Anne Gibson Art + Design and raised two children. Her daughter’s type 1 diabetes spurred involvement with the Central Oregon JDRF and T1D Buddy Camp @ Tamarack. Anne has been a supporter of HPC since she designed our logo and other items. After redesigning the website, Anne joined the board with particular concern for easing food insecurity among our youngest Central Oregon residents. Anne is a member of Tumalo Art Company and enjoys gardening, kayaking, and hiking.
Renata retired from the Department of Human Services in 2022 after 35 years doing social work. Most of those years she worked as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. Since moving to Central Oregon in 1989, she and her husband have seen some tremendous changes including increased food insecurity. She is grateful to lend her support to the Hunger Prevention Coalition to help address this issue.
Renata enjoys outdoor activities, reading, traveling, and civic involvement. She has served on numerous non-profit boards both locally and nationally.
Bend native Lucas Eschelbach graduated from the University of Oregon in 2017, with undergraduate degrees in Political Science & Urban Planning, Public Policy, and Non-Profit Management. Lucas worked for five years at the City of Bend, most recently as Associate Planner in the Economic & Community Development Department. He also worked as an Associate Planner for the City of Missoula, Montana. Lucas has volunteered with non-profit and governmental organizations in Lane County serving immigrants, incarcerated youth, and alternative transportation efforts. Recognizing food insecurity, particularly inequity of access to nutritional meals, as one of the most pressing, fundamental challenges facing these communities, Lucas joined the HPC board in Fall of 2022. He is eager to support the HPC mission, the sustained success of its partner agencies, and the health & well-being of the communities we serve.
